Looking for a great way to start your summer?! What better way to celebrate your summer solstice than Ephram’s 60th annual Fyr Bal Festival! “Fyr Ball” (pronounced “feer-ball”) is a Norwegian word that means “bonfire”. This is their way of welcoming the season, also known as the burning of the winter witch.

You may be thinking, “The burning of the Winter Witch? In this day and age?” Well, this comes from the old Scandinavian tradition of welcoming long and warm summer days in exchange for the harsh, cold winter. This is done by burning the winter witch. Now, no witches will be burned, but you can expect some amazing fire-action happening this weekend! Bonfires as big as your house will border the coastline, and fireworks will be set off at dusk.

This is not just a night event. This spans the whole day. It’s like a massive craft fair filled with culture, music, food, and fun for all ages. The best part is that if you don’t want to spend money, you don’t have to! Some events you will need to pay but examples of them are the ice cream eating contest and different craft activities. If you look on Ephraim’s website, you can find a whole itinerary of what will take place on this festive day.

Also, if you do plan to make your way up here and need respite from the crowds, hop aboard the Belafonte with us and cruise the shoreline of the county.
